HR that scales from day one
Offer letters, IP agreements, onboarding and training in one place, for your first engineers and designers.
- IP agreement signed before day one, and nobody can delete it
- I-9 and W-4 on the plan, with an AI check on timing
- One plan per role: the same first weeks for every engineer
The first hires arrive before the HR process does
At a startup, the founders run HR between everything else, and the way the first hire is set up tends to become the process.
Paperwork you haven't done before
The first hire brings an offer letter, Form I-9, Form W-4 and a new-hire report to your state, and the forms come with deadlines.
Who owns the work
Early hires build the product. The confidentiality and IP assignment agreement has to be signed, and easy to find later.
The first week lives in a founder's head
Each new person gets a different first week, depending on how busy the founders are that week.
Your first engineer, set up in three steps
Do it once, and every engineer after starts from the same plan.
- 1Fill in your company profileYour states, industry and headcount shape the AI suggestions and the compliance checks.
- 2Send the offer and the IP agreementBoth go out for signature before day one, and you countersign online.
- 3Launch the engineer's planStart from your Software Engineer template. Form I-9 and W-4 sit on the first day.

Every hire signs the IP agreement before day one
Investors ask for it in due diligence. In FirstHR each agreement is signed online, dated and kept in the person's file.
- It goes out with the offer letter, or sits in the plan's Pre-boarding phase
- A certificate page with each signer's name, time and IP address is added to the PDF
- Signed documents can't be deleted from the file
From signed offer to trained employee, in one plan
Your first designer's first month, phase by phase: agreements signed before day one, security courses in week one and a check-in with a founder at the end.

One thing I'd tell every founder: the code your first engineers write this quarter may be the most valuable thing you'll ever own, so make sure it's yours on paper before they write a line. Investors will check, and fixing it later hurts. Then give those first people a week that looks planned. The bar they see on day one is the bar they'll set for everyone after them. Move fast everywhere else. Here, a little structure pays you back.
